Future Developments at Thornton Health and Fitness Centre

We are incredibly excited to let you know the details of a significant investment into the gym at Thornton Leisure Centre. The total amount spent on the gym will exceed £230,000 once complete and this investment will really uplift the exercising experience at the centre.

What is happening?

Orders have been placed for new equipment from our trusted, long time equipment partners Life Fitness and Physical Company. We will be replacing almost all of the existing equipment at Thornton Leisure Centre, with the exception of a very small handful of machines.

There will be a comprehensive mix of new cardio machines, fixed resistance, free weights and functional training equipment. Particular highlights will include:

  • Life Fitness Treadmills, Cross-Trainers and Bikes with a range of different consoles including 16 inch “SE4” touch screens with full internet connectivity and a wide range of immersive on-demand workouts
  • A full set of Life Fitness Insignia fixed resistance machines
  • A dedicated Hammer Strength lifting zone with a total of 8 plate loaded machines including Linear Leg Press, Hack Squat, V-Squat, Glute Drive, Horizontal Press, Row, Shoulder Press and Incline Press.
  • An extensive range of cable resistance equipment from the “Signature” range including a full 8 stack multi-jungle with multiple row & pulldown attachments and an integrated assisted chin/dip. As well as two replacement dual adjustable pulleys.
  • An additional squat rack with integrated deadlifting platform & bumper plates
  • A replacement Smith Machine
  • Olympic flat bench press & Incline bench press
  • Dumbbells up to 40kg in the main free weights area, as well as the creation of second ‘lighter’ free weights area with dumbbells up to 20kg
  • Assault bike, Ski Erg and Rowing Machines
  • Full replacement of all functional training equipment including kettlebells, slam balls, sand bags, power bands, battle ropes & much more.

What other changes are being made?

As part of the project, the flooring in the weights & resistance side of the gym will also be replaced with 40mm rubber flooring.

What are the proposed dates of refurb?

The project is scheduled to be completed during June, with the exact dates as follows:

  • Monday 1 June - Gym closed
  • Monday 1 / Tuesday 2 June - Existing equipment extracted
  • Wednesday 3 -  Friday 12 June - Flooring works, decor etc.
  • Monday 15 - Wednesday 17 June - New equipment delivered & installed
  • Thursday 18 June - Gym reopens

Can I still use the Centre?

You can still use the centre as normal throughout the project, although the gym itself will be closed for the duration.

We will endeavor to keep the disruption to an absolute minimum throughout the project, with all other areas of the centre being unaffected.

The Group Exercise programme will continue to operate as normal.

Members are encouraged to use the gym at any of our ‘sister’ sites at Poulton, Fleetwood or Garstang.

How will I know how to use the new equipment?

All members wishing to use the new equipment will be able to book in for a gym induction. This will be a 1:1 session with a member of staff who will spend time showing you the equipment and making sure you’re confident and competent using it.

You can book an induction or refresher session on the Leisure Centre mobile app or at reception.

What will happen to my membership?

There will be no changes to your existing membership. All memberships will be unaffected by this project and payments will continue as per normal.

How will I know what's going on?

We will send out emails with full details, notification via the Leisure Centre mobile app and provide updates on our social media channels.

This FAQ’s page will also be kept up to date throughout the project.in the lead up to the project and throughout.
