Thornton Health and Fitness Centre FAQs

We’re pleased to share the exciting news that Thornton Health and Fitness Centre will be operated by Creating Active Futures in partnership with Wyre Council from 1 April 2026.

Thornton Health and Fitness Centre will remain open as normal, with the usual opening hours and programmes of activity. Your membership will automatically transfer to us from this date, at your current price.

We are delighted to share that there will be some positive initial changes to improve your customer journey, including; 

  • App: You will be able to use our "LeisureCentre" app, to book your favourite classes and activities, as well as accessing a range of other member-only benefits.
  • Booking systems: It will be even easier to book online - via the website or the app.

Below are some frequently asked questions, which we hope will provide all of the information you need in advance of the transfer. However, If your question isn’t answered below, please use the contact us page here and we will respond directly to your enquiry.

 

What will happen to my membership?

Your membership will automatically transfer to Creating Active Futures from 1 April. We’re working with the YMCA to ensure that your price and your current access to the facilities all remain the same.

What will happen to membership prices?

Our core membership prices are remaining the same at this time. In addition, we will have some exciting new membership options available soon.

What will be happening to the group exercise classes?

We’re currently working with the instructors to make sure your favourite classes continue to run to the same timetable from 1 April. We’re also looking at opportunities to offer a wider range of classes and sessions in the future.

What happens to my access to the other centres?

Your membership will continue to include access to Fleetwood Health and Fitness Centre, Thornton Health and Fitness Centre, Poulton Health and Fitness Centre, Garstang Health and Fitness Centre and Garstang Swimming Centre

What’s happening to all of the current employees?

We’re pleased to welcome our new colleagues to become part of the Creating Active Futures team. We’re currently working with them to prepare for their transfer and train them on our systems and procedures. We’re also preparing to advertise for additional team members to enhance the customer experience - check out our jobs page for more information.

What other investment do you have planned for the centre?

We have a schedule of facility and equipment investment planned for the centre. We’re currently finalising plans and confirming the timelines for these, so we will continue to provide updates over the coming months.

Our initial focus will be on refurbishing the gym and common areas of the centre. Investments are taking place at the other centres locally as well, including a new pool inflatable and gym refurbishment at Poulton, a giant Atlantis splash pool inflatable at Fleetwood and many more exciting investments to be announced soon.

What’s happening with the skate park?

We’re currently in the early stages of an exciting re-development of this area into a soft play and adventure play facility. Designed for a wide variety of ages, it will include interactive and modern features making it an exciting activity for all the family!

How will I know what’s going on?

Keep an eye on these FAQ’s as we progress for updates on the questions you ask. From the 1 April we will be in touch with more information and to welcome you to your new app and website, we will also have regular updates and information on social media.

Will I still be able to book my classes through the website?

Once you’ve transferred on 1 April you’ll be able to book classes on the website and our Leisure Centre app. We’ll be in touch when everything is ready for you to do so. You will need to create a new account to be able to book your classes on the app and website.

How do I access the app?

We’ll be in touch on 1 April with details of how to download and register on the Leisure Centre app.

What will happen on 1 April?

We’re working behind the scenes to ensure that everything is ready to go and are working closely with Wyre Council and the YMCA to ensure the process is as smooth as possible. We will have support teams on site to answer any questions, help you get into the app and support the current centre teams.

Will my club or myself still be able to continue booking the facilities?

What will happen to my child’s gymnastics lesson?

We’re working with the gymnastics team to review the current programme in preparation for 1 April. We anticipate that Gymnastics members will automatically transfer on 1 April and your session will continue as normal. More details will be made available in due course.
