Energise Cancer Rehabilitation Scheme Here For The Community

Trish battles back to fitness after treatment

Trish Jackson has been battling cancer and has been able to increase her strength following chemotheraphy thanks to a new rehabilitation programme spearheaded by Hutton Moor Leisure Centre.

Trish says talking to other people who are recovering has helped just as much as increasing her activity. She said "While having chemotheraphy I did not feel well enough to exercise apart from walking. "However, when the course finished I wanted to build my fitness up again and I arranged an introductory meeting with the specialist health exercise instructor at Hutton Moor. "Classes really suited me with differing levels of exercise and being able to work at my own ability level. "Being with people also recovering from chemotheraphy, surgery and other illnesses really helped. I liked sharing experiences, encouraging each other and being in a safe and understanding environment.

Hutton Moor's Energise programme is suitable for people who are going through, or have just had, treatment for cancer. People can be referred by their hospital, community healthcare staff or they can refer themselves.
