A Fitness Instructor hopes to set a world record for charity...by rolling a tractor tyre around an athletics track for 12 hours!
Ed Court, 39, of High Street, Shoebury, will run around the 400m track at the Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre, in Garon Park, pushing a tyre weighing seven stone, four pounds.
It is believed the feat has never been done before, with an adjudicator from Guinness World Records expected the day, which just happens to be Mr Court’s 40th birthday. Ed, who works at the centre, explained why he has decided to do the unique fundraiser.
He said: “You see on TV all the time people running marathons in chicken suits, but I really wanted to try and do a challenge which had not been done before. “When I tell people what I am doing, they think I’m mad.
The challenge, starting at 8am on Saturday, February 11, will raise cash for Together for Short Lives, the new name of children’s charities ACT, and Children’s Hospices UK, who have combined. Ed believes the hardest part of the world record attempt will be maintaining focus throughout the 12 hours. Ed said: “I do a lot of long distance running. When you are doing that you can zone out at times. “For this though, I will not be able to zone out because I will have to concentrate on pushing the tyre around at the same time, so it will be mentally tough. “I am confident I can do it, though.” He went on to say he has no particular targets, but is very interested in seeing how many laps he can do with the tyre.
