Parkwood Leisure has been successful in their bid to manage Exeter City Council’s leisure facilities. The contract will run to 2020.
As part of the new contract Parkwood Leisure is committed to delivering quality leisure services that offer a harmonised approach across each facility in the City. Additionally, Parkwood Leisure will be introducing a re-vamped leisure card, ‘Excite’. This low cost card will offer discounts and benefits to all residents of the City, increasing participation and making everyday activity accessible to all.
Parkwood Holdings already has significant presence in the City with a Regional Office for Glendale Countryside and Silvanus, as well as Parkwood Leisure’s existing leisure management contract at Riverside Leisure Centre. However, the new leisure management contract, that is due to start on 29th September 2010, will add a further six facilities to the Company’s portfolio in Exeter, bringing the Company’s total portfolio to 87 facilities nationally.
Andrew Holt, Chief Executive of Parkwood Leisure has stated:
“Parkwood Leisure is delighted to have been selected for the management of Exeter’s leisure facilities. We look forward to continuing our successful partnership with Exeter City Council, over the next ten years, delivering quality leisure services for the benefit of the whole community.”
Councillor Kevin Mitchell, the City Council's lead councillor for Leisure, said "We are really looking forward to working with Parkwood Leisure with all of the Council's leisure facilities under a single contract rather than in competition with each other. It will allow much more cross promotion and complementary programming, for the benefit of all concerned. The addition of Riverside Leisure Centre to the portfolio of facilities in the contract has also resulted in financial benefits for Exeter's council taxpayers."
Parkwood Leisure is the most successful leisure management company in the UK, operating 82 facilities on behalf of 27 clients. The Company is a fully owned subsidiary of Parkwood Holdings plc, a fully listed support company. Successes over recent years have increased Parkwood Leisure’s turnover to £65 million.
