A member of Parkwood Leisure’s Expressions Gym at Kettering Swimming Pool and Desborough Leisure Centre is taking part in this years series of popular TV show Gladiators.
David Staff, who works for Kettering Borough Council, spends his days coaching sports to children, but by night he is busy training for his next battle with the television musclemen.
The father-of-two fought off competition from 10,000 applicants to make it on to the first television show and is now through to the last eight contenders.
The 29-year old had first applied last year but had to pull out because of a football injury.
He reapplied this year and was selected to take part in the shows after an interview, fitness test and finally a screen test to make sure he could talk in front of the camera after facing a bout with the Gladiators.
He finally won a place in the quarter finals after five gruelling rounds, then a race through the Eliminator, which features a swim, climb, handbike and run up the travelator.
“I was fortunate in the show because I did really well and got 30 points so I had a lead going into the eliminator. I was really proud of my performance because I had the lead and I managed to keep it”, commented David.
Mat Tilley, General Manager of Expressions Gym at Kettering Swimming Pool and Desborough Leisure Centre, where David trains said “It is great for us to see him here using the facilities to prepare. This is a great accomplishment and we wish him all the luck for the next round”.
If he can win the next round he takes a step closer to clinching the £25,000 prize.
The quarter final of the show will be shown on Sky One on Sunday March 8th at 6pm.
