Mountbatten Centre Redevelopment

04 Nov 2008
Work is now well underway on the exciting new Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth. Work started on site on Monday 7th January 2008 and is due to be completed by the Summer of 2009.

The existing centre will remain open during the building work.

Amongst the new facilities will be a 50-metre swimming pool, a separate teaching pool and a state of the art health and fitness suite.
The new centre will be built to the west of the Mountbatten Centre's main building, on part of the existing car park. New car parking capacity will be created on both the west and east side of the centre to accommodate the increased usage. Parkwood Community Leisure have also produced a Travel Plan to encourage more users to take Public Transport and other 'green' methods of transport.

The pool will include a submersible boom and a moveable floor to enable the pool to be set up in different configurations offering a variety of flexible programming opportunities. This will allow the pool to offer a diverse range of swimming activity - from swimming lessons and fun sessions to synchronised swimming, lane swimming and aquarobics.
