WE’RE WORKING ON SUNSHINE
WOW what a great summer and at Kidlington & Gosford Leisure Centre the solar panels have been working overtime. On 30th June 2018 the 145 panels kept the centre going without any need for electricity from the grid, albeit for one hour!
The centre has significant electricity use with the pool plant, air conditioning, floodlighting and overall size of the centre which is open most days from 6am to 10.30pm. Therefore the solar investment by Cherwell District Council has proved to be wise in boosting the centre’s green credentials and overall energy sustainability.
Combine this with other investments by Legacy Leisure including sensor operated lighting, speed reduction pumps, new building management systems and good staff awareness on energy reduction and this assists the centre in its environmental management strategy.
This is also recognised in the reduction of the centres DEC assessment which came down from 83 in 2017 to 76 in 2018.
Legacy Leisure is currently the only leisure operator to have the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Quality Assurance Award.
