A brand new aquatics centre at Wavelengths Leisure Centre, Lewisham, will open at the end of August.
The £4.6m project funded by Lewisham Council includes a new 25m pool and a re-development programme, which will compliment and expand the range of facilities available to be enjoyed by the local community.
The decision to add an extension to the current leisure pool is part of a series of planned improvements to Lewisham swimming pools over the next few years. It is part of a strategy, agreed in 2006, for investment in sport and leisure facilities across the borough.
Kevin Stanley, Area Manager – Parkwood Leisure said “It is fantastic news that the Wavelengths development is currently running to schedule and is due to be finished at the end of August”.
So far the building is watertight and the pool tank has been successfully water tested. The new 25 metre pool and changing rooms are now tiled and the decoration phase of the development is now well underway.
As of the 24th March the front entrance to Wavelengths Leisure Centre was relocated. The temporary entrance to our sales office is now located on Deptford Church Street. Our sales office is open Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm.
During May 2008 Wavelengths Leisure Centre saw the biggest change of all, as this is when both parts of the building became one. The new reception and entrance are completed and the existing leisure pool will also be refurbished. Wavelengths Leisure Centre and Library is currently closed in order to carry out the biggest changes. All Wavelengths customers will be able to utilise the facilities at Ladywell Leisure centre, Ladywell Arena and The Bridge Leisure Centre during this period. Clare Motton, Centre Manager at Wavelengths Leisure Centre is delighted with the progress, commenting “the whole project is really taking shape and with each stage of the development it becomes more exciting. We are looking forward to welcoming all of our customers to our new and improved centre”.
