Dereham Leisure Centre, built under a private finance initiative (PFI) and operated by Parkwood Leisure, has increased visitor numbers by more than 50% in its first year.
Depsite some problems with defects from the building phase, the centre had 53% more people through its door than at the old site in 2006/07.
Stephen Askew, executive member for services said "The first 12 months of operation of the centres has proved an exciting and challenging time for the operator, Parkwood Leisure. They have worked hard to drive up participation and memberships".
Classes and fitness have increased by 190% and 124% respectively at Dereham, whilst sports hall usage was up by 330%. Use of the Thetford centre has increased by 15% in 2007/08 compared to 2006/07, a report to Breckland Council's policy and development review panel said.
Additionally, Parkwood Leisure has increased swimming lessons at Breckland Leisure Centre in Thetford by more than 70%.
Earlier this year, Dereham Leisure Centre achieved a Quest score of 72%, putting the centre in the 'commended' category. The Thetford centre is to be assessed in August.
